How the Name Generation Works

Every name on NameCraftForge is generated algorithmically. Behind each generator is a carefully researched bank of linguistic building blocks — prefixes, suffixes, and complete names — drawn from the real-world language families that inspire each fantasy race. Elf names lean on Welsh and Finnish phonology, dwarf names on Old Norse and Germanic sounds, dragon names on an original heavy phonology, and so on. When you click Generate, the tool combines these elements according to rules that keep the results authentic and pronounceable, and for many generators it even shows you the meaning of each part of the name.

Because this approach is purely algorithmic, there is no AI cost per generation and nothing is sent to a server to be processed — the names appear instantly, every time, whether you generate ten or thirty at once. This keeps the site fast, private, and genuinely free to run at any scale.

About the Project

NameCraftForge was founded in 2026 by a small team of tabletop gamers and developers who were tired of clunky, ad-choked name tools that had not been updated in a decade. The site is built with Next.js and hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which lets us serve fast, static pages from data centres around the world. We are actively expanding the library of generators and adding supporting guides on naming conventions and worldbuilding.
